If you want the best oral health care for your family, it is important to find an experienced and skilled dentist that will help you create healthy smiles for everyone in your family. Dr. Brace and her team have years of experience in improving the health and aesthetic value of their patients’ smiles. Their focus on preventative dentistry, patient care and commitment to continuing education ensure the best treatment possible for all members of your family.
A preventative program is a cooperative effort by the patient, dentist, and dental staff to preserve the natural dentition and supporting structures by preventing the onset, progress, and recurrence of dental diseases and conditions.
Preventing dental disease starts at home with good oral hygiene and a balanced diet. It is continued in the dental office by the efforts of your dentist and dental hygienist to promote, restore, and maintain your oral health. Prevention also includes regular dental exams, cleanings, and x-rays. Sealants and fluoride are also great preventive treatments that help protect the teeth. Prevention helps avoid serious and costly dental problems and is the key to having a healthy, confident, beautiful smile.
Pediatric Dental Care
Children should visit the dentist six months after the eruption of their first tooth OR by one year of age, whichever comes first. It is important to bring your child into the dentist by his/her first birthday to establish a good foundation for healthy teeth. Early care will also allow the dentist to ensure baby teeth are erupting properly.
We understand getting a child to brush their teeth can be difficult. Here are a few ways to encourage your child to brush their teeth without making it seem like a chore:
Brush together! Seeing you brush your teeth and floss can help encourage your child to follow your lead.
Make it fun! There are a variety of products on the market to make brushing fun — color changing toothpaste, tablets that make food debris (plaque) change color, musical toothbrushes, phone apps, and more.
Young children should use a small amount (roughly the size of a grain of rice) of fluoride toothpaste when brushing. A small amount of toothpaste is recommended as children have a tendency to swallow toothpaste and too much fluoride can cause tooth discoloration. Use a small, soft-bristled brush and assist your child with brushing until they are old enough not to swallow the toothpaste.
